Ordinary days

Small Steps Still Count

Some days the achievement is smaller than you'd like anyone to know about.

You got up. You answered the message you'd been avoiding. You ate something that wasn't a biscuit standing at the counter. You didn't cry at the thing you usually cry at.

It doesn't look like progress from the outside. From the outside it looks like a woman having a quiet, unremarkable Tuesday. But you and I both know what it took to get through Tuesday, and it counts. It all counts.

We are taught to measure in milestones because milestones are photographable. Most of a life is not photographable. Most of it is small steps, taken on days when nobody is watching, in a direction only you can see.

Keep going. Quietly is fine.
